Disfrutad.

  3. I was just listening to the version of this piece by the fine South African guitarist, James Grace ('World Cafe', Stringwise Records, CDSTR 101). For most of my adult life I have really only known the Andries Segovia version of 'Mallorca' (Decca DL 710167). Segovia, I have been told was somewhat notorious for rushing through pieces - certainly, compared with Grace, he goes through this at breakneck pace, completing it (according to the sleeve notes) in 5:38. Mr Grace, on the other hand, completes 'Mallorca' in some nine and a half minutes. With this in mind, I thought I would seek out what I presume is the standard, as written (for piano) reading of the piece - here accomplished in 6:27 (according to YT's timekeeping). This seems to sit quite nicely between the two. I notice, looking to my right, that Sharon Isbin appears to play it at quite a brisk pace, whereas Julian Bream gets through it in 7:26. Now to listen to those two versions. One thing's for sure, I really do think that Segovia spoils the lyricism of the piece by going at such a speed - in my very humble and unschooled opinion, of course! Naturally, I think this version is very beautiful. Thank you for posting.

  8. Alicia de Larrocha is one of the greatest musicians, she will never die. Any time you hear her, she comes to life in her playing. She is among the very few musicians to transcend nations, race and other differences. She touches you directly in your heart. Kishor Gurung, Kathmandu. Nepal.
